My Story
Until a few years ago, I worked with money. I've been a financial adviser, a bank manager and an accountant. I climbed the ladder of success, though wasn't certain it was leaning against the right wall!
Many times through my employed years I yearned for some self expression; the freedom to abandon the rules and use my imagination. Instead I followed the rules and trained myself to accept nothing short of "correct" and to aim for "perfect". That was right for the kind of work I was doing at the time, but not necessarily for art.
I found myself retired in my mid 50s and wanting to explore my creativity. Do I have any ability? How would I come up with ideas? What do I want to make? I trained with York College of Art, starting with an Art Foundation Diploma then a degree in 3D Creative Studies.
It took some years to let go of being "correct" or "right" in art. I still have to practice letting go of perfectionism and embrace what comes from experimentation and imagination.
I like to work in ceramics, and aim to create elegant pieces, primarily for my own home. If I enjoy making a piece, I'll develop the idea into a series of works, some of which are sold via galleries or here on this site.
