Artist Statement
A lot of artist statements seem a little odd to me, if I'm totally honest. The language is often vague and ethereal, leading one to believe that artists live on a different plane. Maybe some do... maybe I do!
I'm from village in the fens of Cambridgeshire, the youngest of three siblings. We grew up knowing the seasons of the year, spending most of our time outside with barns and fields to play in. Now settled in York, I'm loving the easy access to nature that comes with living in a small city.
There's a lot of art in York, which I find up-lifting. So what inspires my work? Lots of things - ideas about how to live, political causes, and what might work practically in my home. I love elegance and simplicity.

While I'm at York College, I'm using the excellent workshops there to create pieces. Of course, that will stop once the degree course is over; that's when I'll need to find some studio space of my own. My plan is to establish a place where a few artists can work together.
I invite you to interpret my works as you please. Of course I have ideas around a piece as I made it - sometimes practical, sometimes philosophical, but always interesting. I do not want to dictate how you should think about my works; that's up to you. I am interested in what you make of them. Let me know; there's a contact form here.
